My Health and Fitness Advice!
Simple Steps to a New You! Part 1
Hey Everyone!
Hope everyone is great and has had a great start to the New Year, I’ve had a lovely first month so far with no complaints! So, I get a lot of messages from women of all ages asking just how I stay fit and what my secret is, so instead of individually writing everyone back, I thought just writing a blog would be a good start to answering a few questions. First and Foremost I want to say that I am not a nutritionist nor have I taken any dietary classes. This is what I have learned from a personal trainer, from being in the hospital (that’s another story, for another time) and from reading endless health journals and books! So with that said, I guarantee that there will be some things in here you disagree with however, they have been things that have worked for me and I’ve read and I, myself believe.
Also, I’d like to say, I got a rude message posted about my grammar and how I speak. This is a blog “Mr.Jerk Face”, I only skim over and check my spelling, I am not handing this in for my Final in my Uni Comp class so if you don’t like how I speak or how I’m silly sometimes then please don’t frequent my website. Find something better to do with your time than look at my “Silly writing style”! This is just a fun and hopefully helpful blog! :) OK OK, So, first things first. I am just going to give you a few basic rules or things that I do and have helped me shed pounds when needed. This will be scattered and maybe a bit repetitive as my brain is always scattered! ha ha! SO if you think because you are drinking diet soda you are doing yourself a favor then sorry to say but you are very mistaken, it doesn’t matter diet or regular! Just DON’T drink soda! It’s horrible for you and so full of sugar and other crap! DRINK WATER! LOTS OF WATER! I REPEAT! DRINK WATER! Water is so important for so many reasons, it helps your bowels, helps keep your skin nice by keeping it hydrated, it flushes germs and potential illnesses out and it just does a body good! :) Drink as much water as you can a day, YES! You will pee loads, trust me, but the clearer your pee the healthier! ;) Yes, I just said that! ha!
Next, DON’T eat fast food! Do I really need to say why? Really? I’m sure I don’t…..There are 100 reasons and I frankly, I don’t have the time to write them. I know, I know, it’s an easy way to grab some grub but it’s like eating fake food. It’s so full of artificial ingredients and preservatives! It’s just Sick! I used to eat it when I was younger and now you won’t see my touch any kind of fast food! Just say NO! It’s esp hard after a night out of drinking as your decision making skills are a little impaired. Just don’t do it! Now, speaking of alcohol, I promise you, you will NEVER achieve the body you really want if you are going out 4 nights a week. I’m sorry but it just won’t happen! No matter what alcohol you drink, it is EMPTY calories, it’s going nowhere, It’s storing to fat AND all that food you eat after a night out? That’s being stored straight to fat as well! So while you are drinking a vodka and water, yes you are saving more calories than if you are drinking wine or champagne but you are still consuming about 110 calories per shot and let’s be honest, most people over pour drinks, So Like me, I drink Vodka and flat water, Grey Goose to be exact so there is about 110 per shot. I drink doubles, so that’s 220 calories for one drink. Now I drink I’d say 5 or 6 a night, you do the math….in one night out I’m consuming roughly 1320 calories by having 6 drinks, this doesn’t include any shots I take or the food I happen to crave after. A healthy intake of calories is about 2,500 calories a day so you’re drinking half of your caloric intake just drinking booze. Now think if you drank 6 or 7 wines, think of the carbs and sugar in that? You’ll be even worse off! Plus alcohol and sugar dehydrates you so you will appear puffy and bloated and your skin may break out due to the dehydration of it but that’s yet, another blog.
Have you ever looked at a photo of someone skinny but noticed their face looked really round or puffy? This is a prime example of me, I’m 45 kilos but after a few nights out in a row I have a face of a pumpkin, lol. OR even 1 or 2 nights out if I’m drinking Champers as that really bloats you from all the sugars and carbonation. So If you are really trying to get fit I would limit the nights out as much as you can, Yes this is one of the hardest ones, (I gained 15 lbs in College, I was never big, but I was def. bigger than now all from drinking beer 6 nights a week and eating crap) (I used to eat KFC, YES that was very hard for me to just admit) haha. Another thing that has helped me long run with staying slim is not eating red meat! Now, when I lived in Iowa I ate it and I was pretty slim the whole time but I hadn’t hit 20 yet and around 21 your hormones change and you may experience a little weight gain, (not everyone, but some) Anyway, back to the red meat, So I have not eaten red meat for almost 4 years now and I love it! I feel great and I remain small and NOT bloated. (plus red meat makes you so fatigued) (Go 2 months without it and just feel the difference!!!!) TRY IT! ;) You won’t be bloated either.
Red Meat is very hard to digest and in some people who have problems going number 2, red meat can stay in your system for almost 3 weeks before it is then finally passed through. So if you can shake the red meat, not just to shed the pounds but because eating a lot of animal protein isn’t good for your body!! I believe this 1000 percent and I don’t care what anyone says, I’ve done the research! I tried to be Vegan for a while but that was just so hard for me as I eat so much cereal that I couldn’t always have almond milk! BUT again, dairy isn’t the best for you and most people actually have a dairy allergy they just don’t know it or it’s a very small allergy and just causes headaches or bloating. Most people think if you are allergic to something and you eat it you will die, this is normally not the case unless you have a nut allergy and then yes my friend, you should indeed stay far away from any nuts. Some allergies just cause skin to break out, fatigue, bloating, or headaches, or an upset stomach, So notice the food you are putting into your body and really think about how it makes you feel. If you get a tummy ache after think of what you ate earlier that day? You could be having a mild reaction to something in the food.
Next, FILL YOUR DIET WITH VEGGIES! Veggies are great for you and very high in fiber! Also fruit as you know is amazing but full of sugar, natural sugar yes, so it’s easy to digest and good but it’s still sugar so I don’t recommend having any fruit after about 4pm. NOW ON TO THE BIGGEST MYTH EVER!!!! “CARBS WILL MAKE YOU FAT!” WRONG ANSWER!!!!!!!!!!! Those of you who have lost weight and KEPT it off by going on a no carb diet…..Well I’d love for you to write me and tell me your story because I will say it’s BS! Carbs are an ESSENTIAL part of your diet! You NEED them to function, they give you energy! There are two kinds of carbs, simple and complex, you should have both in your diet but simple is more ideal as it has less sugars normally. If you are eating carbs with protein you are fine. I eat carbs all the time, Hell, most of my diet IS carbs, since the only protein I eat is mostly fish but occasional chicken. A healthy meal would be Chicken, Rice, and say Peas or Beans. Just one example,
Also you don’t need to give up pasta! I eat pasta probably 4 times a week so do a lot of my veggie friends and they are still small. Carbs are not your enemy. I think the best thing to do is try and eat as much food as you can with the least amount of ingredients. Raw foods are good and foods like eggs, breads, nuts, things that don’t have 37 different ingredients and things that don’t have artificial flavors! Also having lots of fiber and whole grains is amazing as eating porridge or wheaties for breckfast each day while also keep the bloating off and keep your system regular as some people carry 5 to 10 lbs on them just from not going number 2 enough and being bloated!!! Seriously! Anyway, This is getting long and I’m getting tired! Lol. I think I will have to make a part two of this or just add the fitness part in because I have to say fitness is important but you can do 500 abs a day but if you eat crap you will never get that six pack! So Again, sorry about the scatter brained blog, just wanted to get a few things out there!
Healthy eating is really very easy! Almost all people know what they need to do to lose weight they just don’t have the will power to give up the junk and fast food! Well, if you want to lose weight you gotta be smart, otherwise the pounds won’t disappear magically! Ok I’m out! I’m falling asleep! :P Over and Out! Love you all and I wish you all the best luck, If you have more Q’s or if you even wanna be rude and tell me how “crap” my blogs are or if I’m wrong on anything comment below! :) I don’t mind! :) Hope everyone has a lovely weekend!!!
XOXO KJ

Great post katy! A fitness/work out post would be amaze, please write soon :) Also when you had to rev things up to lose weight (those few lbs that you said you gained in college) where there any specific rules you lived by? calorie intake etc? I know 1500/2000 a day is healthy for girls, but did you find you had to cut calories further to lose a few kgs, especially when theres not a LOT to lose??
Hey there, glad you enjoyed it……Um, well I ended up getting a bf so I stopped drinking so much (very how that happens) haha, and just from the booze alone I lost about 5 lbs in 2 or 3 months and then stopped fast food and really didn’t snack at all, I had a big breakfast which is good because that way you’re body can metabolize everything through out the day then I had dinner about 7 and nothing after that. So yes, you really need to limit your calories OR you can have more calories but it depends what kind they are! There are so many myths out there about whats healthy and whats not and it really misleads people! If you want results that last you need to realize it’s not an over night thing, it takes time and most people if they don’t see results in a week or so they quit, the only time it can go off quick if you crash diet and then when you do that once you eat again, your body will be so depleated of food that it will actually store everything you eat right away as fat because it doesn’t know when it will be feed again, that’s why starving yourself certain days will never work long term! Write me the things you typically eat and the work outs you do if you are working out and I will tell you what I think! Good Luck hun!!! Remember it takes time!!!!! For everyone!!!! XOXO KJ
At 45 kilos and 5’7 isn’t your BMI way too low to be healthy? It’s like 15.5 and the healthy BMI for you is 18.5 minimum.
To be honest Sally, I have never in my life ever matched a “BMI” chart! To be honest, I do not believe in them in the slightest. I don’t think there can be a chart to determine someones body mass and predict what mass they should be based on no other knowledge then their height! It tells me I should be 135? HA! I doubt I’ll ever weigh 135 pregnant, I have a TINY bone structure! I honesly think it’s complete ludacris! I currently weight 45 kilos…approx 100 give or take a few pounds, I do not believe that a stupid little chart should tell me what my weight should be based on my height! Yes, I am 5 foot 7 but that little stupid chart doesn’t ask me my past, what my genetics are and what my diet is! It puts EVERYONE who is 5’7 in ONE category! Does it ask me that I ONLY eat fish and no other meat? Does it ask me how much my father weighs which is 130 lbs or my tiny little mother? Does it ask me my work out or the caloric intake I consume on a daily basis? NO! So! I believe (not trying to offend anyone) but my BMI based on some ridicuas chart from the 80′s) has no information on my weight now! If you judge you’re weight on BMI I sadly have to say in my opinion you will always be over weight and Hell, the bmi doesn’t show where you are carring weight, you could weight 140 and have a slamming body but because you are mostly muscle and we all know muscle weighs more than fat you could be over, under, or fine. Esp my girls with boob jobs, You will always be a bit heavier as you’re boobs, well, let’s face it are pure fat! Sexy fat ;) lol, but fat so you should add about 2 kilos to those puppies! :p Also. we all know this stupid chart only shows ONE weight and ONE height! Very inaccurate in my opinion along with a lot of dieticians, there is more to calculate than soley ones weight in a BMI chart! Hope u have a lovely weekend Sally, forgive me for any grammer or spelling as it’s very late here! :) XOXO KJ! Gosh if a dr gets on here and proves me wrong based on who I am, my genetics, (having a small family) My diet in NOT eating meat, and my work out AND my tiny little bone structure, well I’ll probably appauld him for doing a great job but laugh in his face again because, I know what is healthy and what is not, I spent time in HELL aka a hospital (Story, soon to come) for months to have someone tell me my “healthy weight” So ppl that want to chime in about a ‘healthy weight” do a little more research than Bmi or Weight and Height charts,,,,You’ll save yourself the humility later ;) (Swear, not trying to be a brat, but I AM an expert at this crap)! :) More to come esp in the AM as it’s 3am….Whoops! :) XOXO KJ Night Night! :) Love u all!
Thanks so much for the reply! Yeah I was just wondering with you being a model if they ever check your BMI. I agree with your point about the chart not being accurate. You are naturally very petite but you certainly look very healthy, and happy! Look forward to Part 2! Thanks again xxx
No Worries, Don’t think I was getting Huffy at you, haha, I’ve just fought lots of drs about BMI and how a chart can’t possibly say every single person’s weight only factoring in one thing :) Anyway Best of Luck!!! x
PS I think the BMI puts Max in the OVERWEIGHT category! LOL
Thanks katy! I agree with you on the BMI thing too, as long as you look and feel your best then who cares about a chart.
Well I never typically eat breakfast. I know i know! bad right! I understand its ‘the most important meal of the day’ but unless im working out in the morning (usually i work out in the afternoons due to my schedule) im just not hungry when i wake up. And i can easily get through until 11am/lunch time on a coffee. recently ive tried eating breakfast but then im starving by 10am and end up eating more food.
For lunch I try to stick to salads/chicken or soups. And dinner is usually vegies and meat. I used to be vegetarian/vegan – and after reading your post im really thinking about cutting out red meat again. I am guilty of occassionally eating take-out especially working in an office full of boys who constantly bring fast food back for lunch.
What are your thoughts on these eating patterns? should i definitely have bfast even if im not hungry in the mornings and then maybe do something different for lunch and dinner? You said you have a big bfast and dinner, does this mean you skip lunch?
Really really appreciate your advice :)
I agree, be sure to post a fitness blog next katy. would be so interested to hear your ideas and advice :)
XO sammy
Thanks Katy :)
I agree with you on the BMI thing too. ESP as long as you feel/look good who cares about a chart.
Well I try to eat pretty healthy. I used to be vegetarian/vegan and after reading about your no red meat diet I’m thinking of cutting it out again.
I don’t really ever eat breakfast. I know I know. Bad right. It’s meant to be the most important meal of the day. But I’m just not hungry. I can easily make it through to lunch time on a coffee but if I eat in the mornings I’m starving by 10am and end up eating more food! If I work out in the mornings (usually in the afternoons given my schedule) I eat bfast. But like I said this is on occasion.
For lunch I try and stick to salad /chicken or soups.
And for dinners vegies/meat.
I am sometimes guilty of eating fast food. In an office full of boys who constantly bing back this kind of food it’s hard!
Are there any changes you can recommend? Should I really have bfast and maybe a light lunch? You said you have bfast and dinner, does this mean you skip lunch? Also portion sizes, what are good amounts? Obv if you’re eating pasta 4 times per week it’s not huge bowls! :)
Your advice would be so great!
Thanks Katy xo
Gemma, I will be back to you asap as I’m traveling at the moment and want to give you a proper reply! :) XX
Ok Sorry for the delay Gemma, First I would say, Let go of the fast food……Yes it may seem harmless esp if you aren’t packing on huge pounds…..(I have a model friend who eats KFC and BK a lot and still doesn’t gain much weight) but It’s so bad for your body and it’s so hard to digest because of all the artificial stuff and all the preservatives! It will just back up your system and leave you feeling bloated. Also, Yes I’d say now eat breakfast as if you eat early you will burn it all off by Mid day…..Eat a small lunch, be careful about salads……People eat salads thinking they are being good but they are loading it with dressing, cheese, and bacon. Also for portions, Your meat should be as big as your hand while making a fist….What country are you in? As America is SOOOO bad about portions and I totally get why people are overweight in America more so than other countries….It’s a shame and really not people’s faults…..(well, not all people’s) Anyway, yes let go of the meat except fish, and limited your chicken!!! Stay away from fish like swordfish though as it’s very high in Mercury. Hmm….What else….Take Clementines or apples to work to keep you from snacking on what the boys bring in….(I know it’s hard, I have SUCH a sweet tooth) ALSO….with saying all this never limit yourself too much on sweets or you will just get so sick you will binge on it and that’s not good. Everything in moderation…..I’d say lay off red meat, snacking too much, and alcohol for a few weeks and see what happens) Sorry if my reply is all over the place. Trying to get to everyone! ;) Best of Luck hun!!! XOXO
Thanks for all that Katy,
Im from Australia, so generally portion sizes are ok, but we are becoming a bit more american-ized and lots of places do serve bigger portions.
Since your blog ive started eating b’fast every day. Natural oatmeal low in sugar, and its actually made me super full until lunch time!
Will definitely do the apple snacks for work, but my aim is to cut all snacks completely.
Really appreciate your advice, looking forward to a fitness one if you get time to write soon :) XX
Do you know anything about what diets would be recommended for male fitness/bodybuilding?
Hi Jay,
I honestly wouldn’t………BUT I can get you a Guys name who would help you! He has a blog and it’s amazing…..He teaches you all the mislead information that most ppl think about dieting….Such as needing HIGH protein for muscle weight…..Google him! “Mike Geary” Sorry I can’t help more! Best of Luck!!!!
